Our Story

Sometimes, the most meaningful journeys begin unexpectedly.

On 11th February 2026, two strangers from different parts of the world crossed paths through a shared interest in endurance sport.

Hasitha had already registered for *Ironman 70.3 Colombo*, taking place on 22 February. Sarah had always been drawn to the idea of completing a triathlon, but she had never seriously prepared for one. Her background was different—long-distance hiking, endurance horse riding, and a natural willingness to push beyond her comfort zone.

Hasitha believed she was capable of more than she thought.

Despite having never cycled more than 10 kilometres at a time, Sarah decided to enter the race.

On 12th February, she tried to register.

The first attempt came back: "Sold Out".

A few hours later, she checked again.

A place had opened.

She registered.

Looking back, that single moment would become much more than an entry into a race. Had that registration never happened, "VAYU may never have existed".

****Nine Days to the Start Line

There were only nine days to prepare.

A few more hikes followed, mixed with recovery beside the sea.

Three days before the event, Sarah arrived in Colombo and completed her first proper road-bike session 30 kilometres.

The following day, she rode another 30 kilometres, following sections of the Ironman 70.3 Colombo route.

It was unconventional preparation, but that was already becoming part of the story believing, adapting and moving forward even when everything was not perfectly planned.

During those days, another conversation began.

Sarah shared with Hasitha that she and her sister had been thinking about creating a brand for runners. Hasitha, having previously worked on product development, introduced her to some of the apparel concepts he had worked on and the manufacturing technologies available in Sri Lanka.

Gradually, the possibilities became bigger.

**** When Everything Aligned

At the same time, several changes were unfolding in Hasitha's own journey.

He had been away from a permanent role for several months. One of the manufacturing plants he had previously led was being closed. Meanwhile, his former colleagues, Wasantha and Suranga, were exploring the possibility of establishing a new manufacturing facility.

Different paths began to converge.

From those circumstances, "Saphfire", the manufacturing home behind VAYU, began to take shape.

But like many new manufacturing ventures, it started with a challenge: there was no established customer base.

Rather than waiting for an opportunity, Sarah and Hasitha decided to create one.

They began developing their own brand.

The process moved quickly, driven by a shared belief in endurance, movement and purposeful living.

And "VAYU" was born.

**** Light as Air. Easy as Breath. Made for Movement.

As endurance athletes, Sarah and Hasitha understood something very clearly.

When you are moving for hours, your clothing should never become another obstacle.

It should support you without distracting you.

It should move naturally with the body.

It should feel almost weightless.

Their vision was to develop apparel that could feel like a "second skin" comfortable, supportive and light enough to almost disappear while you swim, ride, run, train or simply move through life.

That idea became central to VAYU.

Light as air. Easy as breath. Made for movement

VAYU is designed around continuous movement apparel that adapts to the body rather than asking the body to adapt to the garment.

**** More Than Endurance

Endurance sport teaches lessons that extend far beyond the finish line.

Long hours of training teach patience.

Fatigue teaches resilience.

Pain tests discipline.

Doubt challenges the mind.

There are moments when the body wants to stop, yet something deeper asks you to continue.

That is where mindfulness becomes part of the VAYU philosophy.

To endure is not simply to push harder. It is to understand your body, remain present, manage discomfort and continue with intention.

It is the ability to stay calm when the challenge feels overwhelming and take the next step, the next pedal stroke or the next breath.

**** A Journey of Self-Growth

Endurance athletes rarely compete only against others.

The greater competition is often with the person they were yesterday.

A little stronger.

A little faster.

A little calmer.

A little more capable.

That continuous pursuit of growth is at the heart of VAYU.

But growth is not only about performance.

It is also about learning to appreciate the journey the early mornings, difficult sessions, quiet victories and moments of confidence that nobody else sees.

It is about enjoying life while continuing to challenge yourself.

That is what "purposeful living" means to VAYU.

Growth without losing gratitude.

Ambition without losing balance.

Strength without losing joy.

**** The Meaning of VAYU

The name itself reflects the philosophy behind the brand.

"VAYU means air and breath".

In ancient tradition, "Vayu is associated with the force of wind, air and life-giving breath."

In Sinhala too, vayu carries the meaning of air.

Invisible, yet essential.

Light, yet powerful.

Always moving.

To us, that represents exactly what VAYU should feel like.

Freedom.

Movement.

Breath.

Energy.

Life.

**** Keep Moving

VAYU exists for those who choose to keep moving.

For those willing to attempt something that once seemed impossible.

For those committed to becoming better not overnight, but every day.

For those who train when nobody is watching.

For those who continue when there is no applause.

For those who encounter pain, setbacks and uncertainty, yet still find the strength to move forward.

And most importantly, for those who remember to smile, breathe and enjoy the journey along the way.

Because the greatest victories are not always measured by podiums, medals or finish times.

Sometimes the greatest victory is simply discovering how far you are capable of going.

Breathe deeply, Move freely. Challenge yourself. Grow continuously. Enjoy the journey.

"This is VAYU."
